Spice up your Desktop! We only need three ingredients; (1) Wallpaper, (2) the navigator and (3) the utilities! Give your PC some flavor!
Wallpapers. They’re basically just two-dimensional, it’s there behind your icons. A decoration to spice up your desktop but what if there’s a spicier way to heat it up a notch. A livelier, personal and interactive look, your PC can have. So get your spices ready, open the stove and let’s get cooking!
The author's desktop-- the most basic design. Excuse the Active Windows lol.
We only need three ingredients; (1) Wallpaper, (2) the navigator and (3) the utilities.
The key to picking the perfect wallpaper is-- less is more! This is your base. It’s better to choose something leaning on the minimalist side so the other components would take up space. At the same time, you can also build the other components around the wallpaper. You can put the time, depending on the design of the wallpaper. Remember depending on how you choose to navigate your files, icons may be present on the desktop, so take note of that with your wallpaper. There are tons of minimalist, High-definition, wallpaper out there!
This will be how you’ll be navigating your files from the desktop. You have four choices here:
A. Leave the icons as it is-- you normally navigate thru clicking the icons.
B. Hide the icons and have a dock to access them, like the gif above.
C. Have a more customized icon for your icons, an example is a hexagon-shaped icon.
D. Don’t add any, just use your windows button. Why do we like making things hard? Lol
Whatever you choose, just note that it should go well with your Wallpaper. For letter B, I used RocketDock and just adjusted the settings to have the “dock” itself be transparent as well as customized the icons that’ll appear on the dock. For letter C, that’s what we call, Honeycomb, you can download it after installing Rainmeter (which will be talked about under Utilities).
Note: Don't forget to "Auto-hide" the dock (RocketDock), so it won't be a bother when using the PC.
How to navigate Honeycomb
Now, here is where you can go wild, add those flavors that suit you. Under here are the time, date, your RAM usage information, Memory of your PC, soundbars, note-taking, and the likes. You need to download Rainmeter, this will be where you’ll put the “utilities” or the “skins, as they refer to it. Then just search for Rainmeter Skins, there’s a lot online, just download it-- and it should look like a green raindrop, literally.
Just double-click and install!
Once you have all the necessary ingredients, stir them up and garnish to your heart’s content. Just double-click on your downloaded skins and install it, it’ll automatically load onto Rainmeter and appear on the screen. Just do the necessary edits, such as changing the size, length or whatever changes it has available-- just right-click the “skin” on the screen and click Manage Skin or Edit Skin, to unload or load your skins and to customize the specific skin, respectively.
Manage Rainmeter, click on Load or Unload to use the skin and Refresh after editing it confirm the edit.
And voila, you have one zesty, mouthwatering looking desktop. And you’re welcome.
