Having tattoos denotes different translation depending on who owns it and who sees it. But either way, what do these tattoos represent?
Tattoos vary depending on culture, perspective, purpose, and era. Going back to the origin of tattoos, it was still indefinite why people have tattoos. According to studies, it started way back between 3370 BC and 3100 BC. For China and some Asian countries, only criminals have tattoos as an indication that they cannot be trusted. For Egypt, theories say it is for decorative purposes but research suggests that it is caused by treatments for pelvic peritonitis for women. As for Samoa, tattoos are received by incoming leaders of society. Ancient Greek and Rome put markings on the outcasts and on people they defeat on wars through tattoos.
In the 20th century it has a quicker evolution; representation of occupation (1910), as cosmetics for women (1920), social security number not to be forgotten (1930), colored tattoos (1940), sign of masculinity (1950), icons’ signature (1960), messages of peace (1970), rock star signature (1980), cultural symbolism (1990), butterflies and yin-yang on women (2000), and quirky and creative designs (2010). Whichever, tattoos have evolved to be generally of aesthetic value at present and have become intimately connected to the character of an individual. Tattoos aren’t just merely permanent inks but have become a representation of an individual’s character.
